Novalux’s lighting design in schools

Lighting Design in schools

In school buildings, the designed space is narrated and shaped through light: a lighting project integrated with natural light, furniture and users.

Lighting in schools follows specific lighting requirements. These requirements - including the luminaires chosen, the distribution of luminance, illuminance levels, the direction of light, light variability, colour rendering, glare and flicker limitation - ensure the well-being and safety of students and all school staff.

Visual comfort, visual performance, safety, saving

This allows four basic requirements to be met:

  • Visual comfort: a feeling of well-being perceived thanks to adequate illuminance levels, good luminance distribution, correct light direction and good colour rendering of the light sources and the rooms.

  • Visual performance: the ability to carry out any activity even in difficult conditions and over a long period of time. Insufficient or incorrectly distributed lighting reduces visual acuity, leading to visual fatigue, incorrect posture and the possibility of making mistakes.

  • Safety: ensuring that lighting does not adversely affect the safety of students, teachers and other school staff.

  • Energy saving: LED lighting to be chosen to recreate the same visual comfort produced by natural light and limit consumption.

The lighting choice for school buildings

The activities carried out within a school building require a high level of visual engagement most of the time. It is important that this does not translate into eye strain and impairment of visual skills. Therefore, the lighting project for schools has to enhance the value of spaces according to their function: the lighting of a classroom is managed differently from that of a laboratory or a library, with specific requirements and interventions to increase comfort and productivity.

Lighting and room sanitisation

Highly frequented spaces such as schools, offices, clinics, gyms, etc. require a specific lighting design and a sanitisation project that works massively on viruses, bacteria and fungi, especially in this period. When we talk about sanitisation of the spaces we should not limit ourselves to the concept of ordinary daily cleaning with traditional methods and products.

SCHOOL UV-C Novalux

Novalux has developed a product that makes it possible to live, work and study while breathing clean air, for everyone's safety.
SCHOOL UV-C is a Novalux luminaire equipped with LEDs for the illumination of the room and UV-C LEDs for sanitising and germicidal action. School UV-C exploits UV-C LED technology to reduce the microbiological load in the air. Combined with the standard SCHOOL 30W panels, you can obtain the ideal solution to light up spaces such as classrooms, while ensuring an effective air sanitisation, without interfering with people's habits.

SCHOOL UV-C is an important aid in a lighting, protection and air sanitisation plan in schools, but also in civil, residential, outpatient and hospitality settings.
