Chromotherapy and lighting: colour therapy

What is Chromotherapy?

Turning on light is something we do automatically several times a day, but we underestimate the benefits we can receive from light and the different colours that make it up.

Chromotherapy influences our psycho-physical system: colours are absorbed by the body through light radiations, sending us messages and affecting our body and emotions.

Colour therapy has very ancient origins: the Egyptians associated each colour with a precise symbolism and value; in Greece, coloured stones corresponded to certain cures, up to India where, each chakra corresponds to a colour and an area of the body.

Chromotherapy of light

Light represents a kind of alarm clock for the body, capable of influencing the mood, in some individuals more than in others. The purpose of chromotherapy is our well-being, made possible through the properties of colours and their light.

Light and colour therapy

In addition to that, colour therapy proves to be a faithful ally of interior decoration and design, interacting with light fixtures.

Colour therapy is represented by a colour scale with shades of green in the centre, warm colours (red, yellow, orange) on one side, and cool colours (blue, light blue, violet) on the other side.

First of all, it is useful to analyse how each colour goes to influence our psyche, and then to figure out in which environment to place our lights.

Here are some examples of light applied to colours:

  • Green: a symbol of balance, nature and harmony. This colour acts on the nervous system by calming various nerve-related conditions, including migraine. Green can be perfect for the shower/bath area.

  • Red: has stimulating and exciting properties; it is strength and passion. It increases the heart rate. In chromotherapy, this colour is used against anxiety, depression, cough. A suitable colour for business areas, bars, restaurants.

  • Blue: gives calm and peace, useful against insomnia and stress, ideal for lighting the bedroom.

  • Yellow: helps concentration, perfect colour for lighting the kitchen, study and office.

How much does lighting affect us?

Chromotherapy can be used in a lighting project, aimed at balancing mood to ensure maximum well-being.

In fact, chromotherapy lights are not only functional, but they become a modern and innovative design element. Lighting an environment according to the rules of chromotherapy means creating a space that stimulates and rebalances our psycho-physical state.
