Bishop's Palace Bookshop

Place:
Piacenza
Year:
2017
Tipology:
Stores

As part of the renovation of the Bishop's Palace in Piacenza, which houses Guercino's masterpieces, the Curia of Piacenza decided to relaunch the historic ecclesiastical bookshop, completely renovating its furnishings and reopening it to scholars and the city. Unusual lighting solutions were used to enhance a square room characterised by a significant height for the side area and a much reduced height for the central area, located under a mezzanine floor used for archives and storage. The vaulted ceiling is lit from below, from the lower edge of the mezzanine, by Novalux CARTOON LIGHT luminaires that blend in perfectly with the new wall finishes, concealing the source but not the light. The heart of the bookshop, located in the lowest area, is instead illuminated by elegant thin light lines, i.e. recessed P-30. The impact of artificial and natural light has completely transformed the historic building.
