How to design the Lighting of an Open Space?

How to design the lighting of an Open Space?

The Open Space brings together different environments, such as the kitchen and the living room, and creates a single living area with a more convivial atmosphere. When designing the lighting of an open space, it is important to divide it into: ambient lighting (carrier light), functional lighting (to carry out daily activities) and mood light (light with a furnishing function).

Multiple light points for the open space

Different light points must be positioned depending on the function of the area that isilluminated: one light would not be enough. In the kitchen, it is better to opt for direct and powerful light; diffused and less intense light for the living room.

To arrange the light points correctly, it is necessary to start from the source of natural light that is available, so as to foresee the dark corners that will most need back light.

Wall lamps
Wall lamps, or applique are non-invasive lighting devices, indispensable when you do not want to intervene on the ceiling. Perfect for creating the right atmosphere with diffused or grazing points of light on the wall, or to lighten particular areas of the open space with spot optics. They are usually not used as a main light source, but as a valuable support for primary lighting. An example is given by the Novalux products: PROFILO T, a double-emission LED wall lamp  with a linear design; VELA, a LED wall lamp with an excellent lighting performance; APP, a small and elegant LED wall luminaire.

Spotlights
Spotlights are modern and alternative lighting elements to wall or floor lamps, comfortable to manage and versatile. Ideal to illuminate some areas of the open space, such as an equipped wall or a painting. Recessed or visible spotlights, such as the Novalux TIN or OWL ceiling-mounted spotlights, or MAU adjustable recessed spotlights. They direct the light and are able to enhance the spaces, both from an aesthetic and functional point of view.

Ceiling lights
Ceiling lights are useful light points that adapt to any style, such as the Novalux LUNA LED ceiling light, perfect for illuminating passageways.

Cuts of light
Illuminating the open space with cuts of light - such as with the Novalux L-16 EVO products, the HERO C or LUCKY EVO C recessed LED systems, up to the GHOST EVO - is an effective idea in order to bring light wherever you want, to illuminate every corner, highlight strategic points  and avoid  the now outdated concept of classic chandeliers.

Suspension lamps
Suspension lamps, such as the HERO SYSTEM, can be placed on the dining table or on the kitchen counter, to illuminate a large space while giving a sense of intimacy, as well as rhythm to the lighting of the environment.

LED Strips
The light strips, such as the LED STRIPS, which can be installed in the range of Novalux PROFILED LED Strip profiles, are chosen to illuminate - for example wall units, shelves or sideboards - with minimum bulk and without stealing space from the environment. White or coloured LED strips, for a more pop touch.
